With the removal of the premium in-feed tariff, the property owners were faced with large increases in energy costs. With the owners working during the day and consuming energy in the mornings and evenings, the installed solar no longer met their needs. The energy was being exported to the grid for a negligible return during the peak production periods, only to be purchased back at high cost later when needed. It was also a lifestyle decision as the owners had to cut, split, store and transport firewood to heat their home. This is a physically and time-consuming exercise.

The owners recognised that this task is becoming far more difficult as they aged and wished to replace this with another heating source. The last consideration is energy security. During days of catastrophic fire risk or weather-related outages, the power grid may no longer be a reliable source. The use of a generator in these situations is an expensive option due to long term storage of fuel and the deterioration of the machine though lack of use.

A local installer recommended Fuseco and the ISUNA solution. Fuseco worked with the installer to provide a list of components that best suited the customers’ requirements.

The new inverter had to be placed in a different location to the existing solar, however considering the flexibility of the ISUNA system, this was easily achieved.

The AC coupling of the existing solar, allowed ISUNA to combine the existing solar without any modifications. The placement of ISUNA’s power meter near the grid power meter allowed ISUNA to manage the site’s existing renewable equipment, making great use of the previous investment made in electrical infrastructure.

The installation process took two days.
